If you are into mountains, beer, and nice people, Asheville is worth a visit. There are creameries and breweries along with plenty of shopping. The Biltmore is worth a visit and the scenery is superb.
Definitely hit Wicked Weeds and the Biltmore Mansion. The gardens at the Biltmore are worth the fee alone!
Asheville is a simply beautiful city. It is populated by the most open minded, outgoing citizens. There is so much to do in the beautiful surrounding mountains, as well as in the thriving downtown streets. Hiking, kayaking, and zip lining are popular for the average adrenaline junkie. However, I enjoy the more artistic, human element of Asheville. In the spring, there are musicians that perform on the streets in downtown. There is a drum circle that anyone who enjoys playing or dancing would love. There is also many quaint romantic restaurants and bakeries where I and my Fiance have enjoyed many a quiet evening.
My favorite place is downtown. There are several bakeries and restaurants there that are romantic. There is a music hall that doubles as a small bar. There are also many good museums.
This city peaked during a ten year period between 1995 & 2005. Now, too hip to afford unless by inheritance or importing money from elsewhere. Jobs are scarce & low paying. Real estate is 4th most expensive in nation, and impossible to compete for. Rednecks surround the city, so expect undereducated and resentments. Weather in winter can be depressing. Arts & entertainment lean toward commonplace or mundane. City slows down way too early, or is crowded by ashat tourists who act like locusts. Summer festivals seem all the same. Lots of dogs & unattended children in the 50 ipa breweries. Out of town developers gouging for downtown locations. $600/sqft+ is not uncommon. Wish-washy impotent culture for the most part. It may be great place for the entitled and pseudo-spiritual ambiguous...but what about the rest of us- Expect to drive everywhere, pay for parking if you can find any. So many homeless line the streets they seem to outnumber tourists. Used to be super cool...but now just an elitist fascist sanctuary. Surrounding towns are even worse. Good luck here. Definitely not the Asheville of legends yore.
Expensive for what's offered. NYC prices for jersey quality & service. Beware the homelessness. Many are living in vehicles around city due to tragically few decent paying jobs & skyrocketing real estate prices. Too many undereducated & over-entitled to deal with. Leaving ASAP.
I moved from Asheville...yes Asheville back to my hometown of Forest City. I got tired of the unfriendly people on Asheville, the traffic, the incredibly high cost of living, etc. I love being back in Small Town Friendly.
