I was born and raised in Kankakee, Illinois. When I was about 15, I was Miss Junior Kankakee of the town. I grew up with my parents and siblings in our nice homes, with dogs, a strong church community and peace of mind. I had a fabulous education in Kankakee Schools, where I was always a top student and leader. I got into the best schools in the world. From there I chose the University of Chicago and eventually transitioned to graduate school at The New School in New York City, where I became a published novelist. I love to come home and stock up on everything that is sooo cheap and economical compared to bigger places: clothes, food, toiletries, etc...The Kankakee County Fair may be the best in the state; I return for it every year and I am so looking forward to it this year! Best, Kalisha
