I lived in Newport when I moved down here due to a rent situation I couldnt turn down, since then I have moved but my kids weren't in school yet and I personally loved it there. You find trouble if you look for it but the people are great and if you have money, you can live like a king. The police force has been renewed and actually care and the churches are very solid. While I wouldn't move back it truly is beautiful and makes for a quick trip to Cherokee casino and NC.
