The 10 Best Philadelphia Suburbs To Live In For 2024

The best Philadelphia suburbs are Narberth and Haddonfield for 2024 based on Saturday Night Science.

If HomeSnacks was asked to hand out awards to the city with the best suburbs for 2024, Philadelphia would be at the top of our list. But, since we haven’t been asked to do that just yet…a list of the top ten best suburbs in the City of Brotherly Love for 2024 will have to suffice. And, folks, you can find this list below.

And just like Phillly’s Rocky Balboa, we have been training for this list for quite some time. This is actually our tenth time ranking Philadelphia’s best suburbs, so believe us when we say that these are truly P-towns best of the best. Fortunately, however, we did not have to run a bunch of steps to get the most fit list; we just had to consult the latest FBI and Census for things like population counts, income levels, and unemployment rates. And because we always give 110% to our work, we created our own SnackAbility index and ran all 92 Philadelphia suburbs through our formula for things like education levels, amenities, commute times, and diversity.

We discovered some fun Philly facts along the way. For one, if you want to live in one Philadelphia’s best suburbs, you’re going to have to spend a decement amount if you want to buy a home in one of these gems. Secondly, the economic and cultural anchor of the Delaware Valley is one of the state’s most diverse cities. So if you want a suburb with the best Asian fusion and Philly cheesesteak ‘whit wiz,’ choose Collegeville, and if you want the best suburb for your family, definitely give Swarthmore a look.

Methodology: How We Determined The Best Suburbs Around Philadelphia for 2024

Figuring out the best suburbs around Philadelphia was simple. We used Saturday Night Science to find things people like about living in the suburbs and then locate the suburbs with those things.

We analyzed the newest American Community Survey data for 2018-2022 to research each suburb. We decided upon the following criteria:

  • Low unemployment rate
  • High median household incomes
  • Population density (lots of things to do)
  • High home values
  • A lot of college-educated people
  • Low poverty
  • High rate of insured families

We defined a suburb as being within 30 miles of Philadelphia.

Additionally, we limited the analysis to places that have over 2,000 people. This left us with a grand total of 92 suburbs to evaluate around Philadelphia.

We ranked each place with scores from 1 to 92 in each category, where 1 was the “best.

Next, we averaged the rankings for each place to create a quality-of-life index.

Finally, we crowned the city with the best quality of life index, the “Best Suburb near Philadelphia.” We’re lookin’ at you, Narberth.
