Sounds like a great way to save the taxpayers the cost of more prisons, just sentence them to live in Clovis.

I lived in Las Cruces, NM for 9 years. I moved there for college and then stayed for a time as I worked my first post college jobs. I lived in apartments and houses, depending on what I was renting. I lived there from 1992 to 2001.
I loved the food: they have their own local twist on Mexican food, the Mesilla Valley tradition, that is absolutely delicious. Hatch green chile and the local, southern NM spice mix are the underlying reasons. The local people are really friendly. The cost of living was very low.

ABQ is the worst. A deplorable place. People have a chip on their shoulder in Albuquerque because they have to live where they do. It’s a city with an identity crisis… people want to pretend that it’s a big city, but it’s really just a sprawled out shithole, with not real options for entertainment. Downtown is a joke. The university is a joke. The whole place is better when seen from I-40 or I-25 in your rear view mirror. The schools are some of the wors in the country. Nepotism is rampant in city government.
City is ran terribly. City departments are all cousinsdrug problem is more on an epidemic scale than any place I’ve ever been. Just an all around terrible place.

More on Socorro: Data | Cost Of Living | Movers

I live in Socorro and we really enjoy going to TorC to soak in the waters or to go antiquing. It’s a quirky, yet charming little place. I was surprised Socorro did not make this list. Our drug problem is just awful. It’s not a very pretty town. Our city council bows to the mayor who is just setting up his own life for when he retires. There’s not a whole lot of pride going on here; no pride in mothers and fathers caring for their kids, no pride in homes, no pride in school life… G*d bless the people that try out here. There’s more scuzzy people that ruin it for everyone else than there are quality people that try to make Socorro nice.

We love our new home state because houses are affordable and the people are wonderful. I agree what you described is Albuquerque. The mountains here are stunning. The climate is astonishing. NM is enchanting. Sorry you have not seen more of it.
Science abounds here. Space history, solar studies, and the Very Large Array.

Methodology: How do you determine which city is best for singles in New Mexico anyways?
To give you the places in New Mexico which are best for singles to find one another, we used Saturday Night Science to look at a handful of metrics. Of course, we want to measure the type of people who live in each city and make some assumptions about what single people like.
So we researched the internet for a database that contains all that information.
We threw a lot of criteria at this one to get the best, most complete results possible. Using the 2020-2024 American Community Survey Census data produced for the state of New Mexico, we looked at every single city in the state. We paid particular attention to:
- Population density
- % of population that’s male vs. female (closer to a 50-50 ratio is better)
- % of households with kids
- Median age
- Number of unmarried people in each city
We then gave each city a “Singles Score.”
The higher the score, the better the city is for singles to find one another. We also limited our results to cities with over 5,000 people. For New Mexico, that meant a total of 33 cities.
We updated this article for 2026. This is our eleventh time ranking the best cities for singles in New Mexico.
Read on to see why Clovis is the talk of the town while Edgewood is probably a bit on the bland side.
