Dave King -

I live in Marion....and both my wife and I are very much employed.....last year, we bought our house for $205,000, among a multitude of similarly priced houses.....and for the record, there are many houses here, right downtown in the historic district where we live, that are priced at $500,000+. Just like anyplace, it's got its more depressed areas...but I also must be taken into consideration that the population here is around 7,000 people....so places to work ARE limited....but that's the price you pay for a low, small town census count.

My granddaughter gets a very good education at the school she attends.

I've lived in Virginia for 6 years....and am originally from Modesto, CA......you want to talk about underfunded schools, drug issues, crime, and per capita rates on unemployment-

Marion is a very scenic, friendly and unique mountain town conveniently located on I81 in SWVA. It is one of the larger towns in the general southwest portion of the state of Virginia.

Hungry Mother State Park is recognized as one of the best state parks not only in Virginia but in the entire United States, and is a must see. It is a perfect spot for a fun and inexpensive family vacation, yet just as easily can accommodate any solo road trippers or couples. Downtown Marion offers a nice variety of stores and restaurants. This is a great place to be any time of year, but summer is a wonderful season to spend some of your time hanging out in this cool town.
