Review Of Starkville by HomeSnacks User

Crime is average for this to be a college town there is nothing much to do. The cost of renting homes here is too high. There are no restaurants outside of fast food. Have to travel to Columbus or Tupelo for quality eating or shopping.

The only good thing about Starkville is it’s a college town the home of Ms State University. The bad thing is there aren’t anything but fast food places to eat. There is a Harvey’s, Applebee’s, Ruby Tuesday’s, and No Way Hose’s. No nite life at all.

Crime rates are horrible and there is always a shooting, stabbing or etc that happens almost daily. The schools are usually crammed pack and the teachers do not watch for our kids when it comes to bullies. Kids have taken their own lives due to this nonsense.

Things I enjoyed were activities: Casinos, restaurants, pool halls, kids learning centers. But the traffic and people in the area are horrible and rude.

I live in Ocean Springs. I guess we made it on the list because of the bars. I think the criteria may need to be a little different. There are a lot of bars, but very few are redneck bars. I can think of several cities that are more redneck, such as Helena, Vancleave, Saucier…I guess because they have no bars they didn’t make it. It’s a fun article anyway.

horrible streets and roads, crime, businesses leaving the city or states, going out of business, losing airlines, low business environment, bad schools and less good doctors.

The horrible streets and roads the bad; which aren’t being repaired due to lack of funds in the budget.

Methodology: How do you determine which city is best for singles in Mississippi anyways?

To give you the places in Mississippi which are best for singles to find one another, we used Saturday Night Science to look at a handful of metrics. Of course, we want to measure the type of people who live in each city and make some assumptions about what single people like.

So we researched the internet for a database that contains all that information.

We threw a lot of criteria at this one to get the best, most complete results possible. Using the 2019-2023 American Community Survey Census data produced for the state of Mississippi, we looked at every single city in the state. We paid particular attention to:

  • Population density
  • % of population that’s male vs. female (closer to a 50-50 ratio is better)
  • % of households with kids
  • Median age
  • Number of unmarried people in each city

We then gave each city a “Singles Score.”

The higher the score, the better the city is for singles to find one another. We also limited our results to cities with over 10,000 people. For Mississippi, that meant a total of 40 cities.

We updated this article for 2025. This is our tenth time ranking the best cities for singles in Mississippi.

Read on to see why Starkville is the talk of the town while Petal is probably a bit on the bland side.
