I like Tempe because it’s where I grew up. It’s pretty central to a lot of places. The Phoenix Zoo and Downtown Phoenix are very close to Tempe as well. Tempe is home to Arizona State University too. There are lots of neighborhood parks and activities that happen year round in Downtown Tempe.

Favorite places are Tempe Town Lake. The neighborhoods in South Tempe are really nice. Some bad things are that so many people are moving here and there is a lot of development which is good for a city’s growth but it has taken away the small town feel that we had here when I was kid.

Crime was usually seen at least every day, with shootings or gun violence at fast food restaurants at least once a month. A university began volunteering in the community and would clean the streets, offer services, etc. The roads are bumpy and old, and the drivers are seemingly unsafe and run red lights/cut people off all the time. There are homeless people on every corner and freeway enterence.

There is a Joyride Taco and Federal Pizza on central and camelback that has great food, and The Biltmore shopping area is a reasonably safe mall with lots of stores and places to eat.

Crime in Tucson was fairly limited to various areas throughout the city. As like all other locations, schools, environment, neighborhoods all had their ups and downs. But for the most part, it was a great place to be.

Tucson was great, the weather was perfect, if you can stand dry heat and hot temperatures. Just the atmosphere there was good. You have Phoenix an hour or so away, Vegas, California, all within hours of a drive. Worked on the military base there, and it was a large area, great jobs, great people. Loved going out downtown to the city and going to the various bars, clubs.

I lover Flagstaff, AZ. If you love the outdoors, then you will love it here. You can go to the Grand Canyon. You can hike a volcano, you can see indigenous dwellings, you can go to Walnut Canyon and see the indigenous dwellings carved out of the mountain side. You can hike in a cave and go off-roading. The downtown area is cute with decent food and entertainment. Good coffee shops.

My favorite thing was going to this trout farm on the way to Sedona, Az. The best trout I have every tasted. You catch it, they clean it, then you grill it right there, surrounded by the mountains.

The crime rate in my neighborhood is low. The schools are great. And there are plenty to do. There’s a water park, laser tag, movies, bowling, and an arcade, not to mention libraries and parks.

Water parks and swimming pools are a great way to keep cool.

Of all the places I’ve been to and lived in so far, in America, I loved the small town charm and beautiful landscapes of Prescott. I had so much fun in the Dells, and even filmed while there because of the majestic beauty. The people were nice and it truly felt like home. I miss it.

The Granite Dells, Hastings media store, and the small natural market. These were my favorite places to visit in Prescott, AZ.

We looked all around the Phoenix area before selecting Glendale. Close proximity to medical help was a must, as was easy access to shopping, entertainment and outdoor activities. Although we no longer have children in school, good schools were also a priority. To our surprise the church we were interested in, happens to almost be across the street. Having the feeling of space and being near the mountains was important to us as well, during our search. Our neighbors are wonderful and we have a lovely mountain view from our back patio. A quick drive/walk gets one to hiking and other outdoor activities. At this time, it does not feel as congested as other parts of the Phoenix area. City water was also a priority as some of the builders we looked at are subsidizing water costs. Later on that could become an expensive proposition. When asked what is not to like, I am still thinking about it and haven’t come up with anything.

Our neighborhood nests up to a mountain and there is this wonderful feeling of openness. Homes and subdivisions around us are all well maintained and attractive. It seems all around there are beautiful views in every direction. On the downside, traffic here is crazy near the 101 access. At first we thought all of the wild, fast and rude drivers were in some of the more well to do areas, where we had vacationed, but it turns out they are out in force everywhere. At least AZ has tried to plan ahead for roads/routes to try to handle the traffic. Some of the large cities in the Midwest pale in comparison on that issue.

Methodology: How do you determine which city is best for singles in Arizona anyways?

To give you the places in Arizona which are best for singles to find one another, we used Saturday Night Science to look at a handful of metrics. Of course, we want to measure the type of people who live in each city and make some assumptions about what single people like.

So we researched the internet for a database that contains all that information.

We threw a lot of criteria at this one to get the best, most complete results possible. Using the 2019-2023 American Community Survey Census data produced for the state of Arizona, we looked at every single city in the state. We paid particular attention to:

  • Population density
  • % of population that’s male vs. female (closer to a 50-50 ratio is better)
  • % of households with kids
  • Median age
  • Number of unmarried people in each city

We then gave each city a “Singles Score.”

The higher the score, the better the city is for singles to find one another. We also limited our results to cities with over 10,000 people. For Arizona, that meant a total of 41 cities.

We updated this article for 2025. This is our tenth time ranking the best cities for singles in Arizona.

Read on to see why Tempe is the talk of the town while Coolidge is probably a bit on the bland side.
