To do so, we analyzed how the people in each city in New York with a population greater than 5,000 voted during the last presidential election. The cities with the highest percentage of voters who voted Democrat were named the most liberal cities in the state.

As of 2016, Bronxville was rated the number one most expensive suburb around America’s ten largest cities by CNBC with a median home value of $2.33 million. Irvington, sometimes known as Irvington-on-Hudson, is an affluent suburban village in the town of Greenburgh in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan in New York City, and is served by a station stop on the Metro-North Hudson Line. To the north of Irvington is the village of Tarrytown, to the south the village of Dobbs Ferry, and to the east unincorporated parts of Greenburgh, including East Irvington. Irvington includes within its boundaries the community of Ardsley-on-Hudson, which has its own ZIP code and Metro-North station, but which should not be confused with the nearby village of Ardsley, New York.

Pelham is a suburban town in Westchester County, New York, approximately 14 miles northeast of Midtown Manhattan. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 12,396. Historically, Pelham was composed of five villages and became known as “the Pelhams”. Pelham currently contains two independently incorporated villages: the Villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor, Approximately 28 minutes away from Grand Central Terminal by the Metro-North train, Pelham is home to many New York City commuters and has an active social community for its residents. Notably, the Whitestone Bridge is approximately 8.5 miles south of the town and can be reached in 10-15 minutes without traffic. It is also 13 miles northeast of LaGuardia Airport, which can be reached in 20-25 minutes without traffic and John F. Kennedy International Airport, the city’s main international airport, is 19.5 miles south of the town.

Pleasantville is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York. The village population was 7,019 at the 2010 census. Pleasantville is home to a campus of Pace University and to the Jacob Burns Film Center. It was the original home of Reader’s Digest, which still uses a Pleasantville postal address. Most of Pleasantville is served by the Pleasantville Union Free School District, with small parts of northern Pleasantville served by the Chappaqua Central School District. The village is also home to Pleasantville High School.

Saturday Night Science
How we determined the most liberal cities in New York for 2026
To find the most liberal places in New York, we used Saturday Night Science – the argument you’d make at a bar – to find the cities with the most liberals.
We started by making a list of every city in New York over 5,000 people based on the 2020-2024 American Community Survey. That left us with 168 cities and towns.
We then measured the voting record and MIT election data to determine which places lean the most leftward in their allegiances by:

Because no voting data exists at the city level, we used county-level election results from the 2020 election. We assigned every city in a county the percentage of votes that went to the Democrats, effectively extending the county’s results to the city level. In cases where larger cities encompassed an entire county, the election outcomes accurately reflected the city’s political landscape.
The winner, New York, is “The Most liberal City in New York For 2026”. The most conservative place in New York was Albion.
