Instead of relying on public opinion and speculation, we wanted to get the facts straight and find out which beaches in New York are the best. If you frequent one of the beaches we’re about to highlight, odds are you’re probably wincing, since there’s a chance your favorite spot might get a little more crowded. Sorry about that.

How do you determine the best beaches in New York?

In order to rank the best beaches in New York, we had to determine what criteria defines a “best”.
Using government data, we arrived at the following set of criteria:

  • Beach size
  • Number of days the beach is open
  • Which beaches are publicly owned

We then ranked each beach with scores from 1 to 302.
And finally, we crowned the beach with the highest beach index the “Best Beach In New York.” We’re lookin’ at you, Robert Moses State Park.
